Vought F4U Corsair

The Vought F4U Corsair was a single seat carrier-borne and land based fighter. The US Navy decided the F4U had poor carrier landing performance, and first deliveries were made to the US Marine Corp. Revisions allowed carrier operations and from September 1943 the F4U became possibly the finest fighter of WW II with a victory:loss ratio of 11:1 and superb ground attack capability. Total production up to 1952 was 12,571. The F4U had a maximum speed of 415 mph and was armed with six 12.7-mm (that's 50 caliber folks) machine guns.
