The Me Bf 109G entered service in the summer of 1942, first with German fighter units based in North-West Europe, and then with groups serving in all other German theaters. In short, it was the work horse of the Luftwaffe. The G model remained in service right to the end of WW II, with a production run of 23,500 aircraft from five manufacturers.The Me 109G had a maximum speed of 406 mph and was armed with two or three 20-mm cannons and two 7.92-mm machine guns.
