Boeing B-47 Stratojet Medium Bomber

The Boeing B-47 Stratojet was a six engine three seat strategic medium bomber, and was the first swept winged jet bomber to enter service anywhere in the world. With its six 72,000-lb thrust turbojet engines, the B-47 could fly at a maximum speed of 606 mph at a service ceiling of 40,500 ft; it had a range of 4000 miles. Equipped with two remotely controlled 20-mm cannons in the rear position, the B-47 could carry up to 20,000 lbs of bombs, this included atom bombs. From 1953 to 1957 the B-47 was SACs (Strategic Air Command) front line bomber. Every SAC base in the world had 12 to 15 reflex B-47s, loaded with A bombs, ready to launch within 15 minutes in the event of nuclear war with the USSR.
